Silent Disco a Glastonbury History
Silent disco seems like a new wave of dance partying but it actually began in the 1990’s in Europe, as a way for Glastonbury festivalgoer’s to enjoy some after-curfew music. There were other silent dance parties that debuted in the early 2000’s but it wasn’t until the 2002 hugely successful Bonnaroo Music festival, here in the U.S, that the term was actually coined.
Even though thousands of people flocked to the silent dance floor at Bonnaroo it took a while for it to gain popularity. The silent dance was used mostly as a way for attendees to enjoy concerts and large scale events, while still being able to abide by sound ordinances. But over time it evolved into other forms like, silent theater, silent street shows, silent bowling, until its popularity skyrocketed about a six years ago. In fact, in 2011 the term Silent Disco had gained so much popularity that the Oxford Dictionary added the phrase to their website.
Although extremely popular for large events, most people don’t have as much access to it for more intimate functions and that’s where Keystone Silent Events comes in. Weddings, kids parties, graduation celebrations, corporate functions are all able to host a silent party of their own and we’re excited to get your party started!
